Expansion joints, engineered to never fail.
Fleximech Solutions designs and fabricates metallic expansion joints for piping systems across India.
About Fleximech
Fleximech Solutions is a West Bengal company specialising in the design and fabrication of metallic expansion joints. With its sister concern Technomech, it focuses on precision bellows design for flexibility, durability and reliability.
It offers one of the largest ranges of stainless steel (SS) expansion joints in India, backed by a commitment to zero operational failures and a mix of hands-on industry experience and material science research.
Technical leadership
Mr. Srikanta Pramanick and Mr. Debjyoti Bishnu bring over 30 years in bellow, piping and valve design, fabrication, testing and commissioning. Clients span steel, petrochemical, marine, food, pharmaceutical and power industries.
R&D leadership
Dr. Navonil Bose has 17 years of research and academic expertise in material design, synthesis and testing, from IIT Kharagpur, IIEST Shibpur and Jadavpur University.
What an expansion joint does
Fleximech SS expansion joints are flexible metallic connectors made from plies of metal. They relieve stress from thermal expansion, mechanical vibration and structural movement in piping systems.
- Multi-directional compensation: absorbs axial, lateral and angular movement at the same time.
- System protection: shields anchors, supports, pumps, valves, turbines and connected equipment from dynamic stress.
- Efficiency and reliability: low movement forces, reduced fatigue factors and minimal heat loss.
- Misalignment correction: connects misaligned piping with ease.
Product range and specifications
Metallic bellows tailored to specific operating environments.
| Joint type | Description | Max pressure (kg/cm²) | Max temp (°C) | Size range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single expansion joint | Single bellows designed mainly to absorb axial movement in a pipeline section. | Up to 30 | Up to 1250 | 100–2500 mm |
| Untied double / universal joint | Two bellows separated by a short pipe connection, absorbing combined axial, lateral and angular movement. | Up to 20 | Up to 1250 | 100–2500 mm |
| Hinged single expansion joint | Single bellow with hinge plates and pins that allow angular rotation in one plane and restrain pressure thrust. | Up to 25 | Up to 1250 | 25–4000 mm |
| Hinged double expansion joint | Similar to double tied units, permitting lateral movement in one plane only, controlled by hinge straps. | Up to 20 | Up to 1250 | 25–4000 mm |
| Gimbal single expansion joint | One bellow with two pairs of hinges on a common floating gimbal ring, allowing angular rotation in any plane. | Up to 20 | Up to 1250 | 25–4000 mm |
| Pressure balanced joint | Absorbs axial and lateral movement while balancing pressure thrust with tie rods and an opposing balancing bellow. | Up to 10 | Up to 1250 | 25–4000 mm |
| Heat exchanger joint | Fits fixed tubesheet and floating head heat exchangers to absorb differential expansion between shell and tubes. | Up to 20 | Up to 1250 | 25–4000 mm |
Custom pressure and temperature ratings, or custom movement capabilities, are available on request.
Bellow accessories
Control units (tie rod assemblies)
Recommended for all SS expansion joints. Control rods and stretcher plates run flange to flange, preventing excess movement if an anchor or equipment fails and absorbing static pressure thrust.
Protective shields and covers
Essential for corrosive chemicals or high-temperature media. They protect people and machinery from leaks, splashes and external fire.
Internal sleeves
Limit direct contact between the bellow and high-velocity fluids, reducing corrosion risk and keeping sediment out of the corrugations.
Companion / counter flanges
Supplied on request so the joint fits into your existing pipeline network.
Design and manufacturing
Bellows are designed and built to EJMA (10th Edition), ASME and IS standards under a highly qualified team. Fleximech uses CAD platforms and specialised engineering tools to build joints for each system's requirements. Piping stress analysis is available for complex installations.
What we consider when selecting a joint
- System metrics: pipe size, installation space, anchor layout, ambient and operating temperatures, and time spent at maximum temperature.
- Flow and pressure: media type, flow velocity, whether pressure is constant, intermittent, shock or pulsating, plus surge and test pressure.
Quality, testing and traceability
Every piece is under strict quality control through its lifecycle.
- Destructive testing: 1 in every 100 joints is life-cycle tested to destruction under load.
- Individual inspection: every finished unit is inspected before it leaves the factory.
- Traceability: full traceability from raw material, with a serial number and manufacturing date on each product.
Testing capabilities
- Ultimate tensile strength (UTS)
- Radiographic testing
- Liquid penetration testing
- Hydrostatic (water) testing
- Vacuum testing
- Axial and lateral stiffness and deflection
- Dynamic life cycle testing
- Vibration testing
